Damn, shit alright dude man this is my first fucking blog, yeah I have friends in low places and they just happen to be attached to Tommy Davis, to me he is the most prolific house artist, people should look at his body of work, fuck baltimore, fuck the world, world wide as a house artist look what he’s done with Crystal Waters and Ultra Nate, and I sold him his first pair of 1200’s. He put out Get the Ho, with Jacob from Metro Sound pressing the records, the first actual Baltimore House record – Jacob was a cheap…… Tommy was already world wide successful and he didnt want or need to own a pair of 1200’s.
Tommy was the first in store DJ in Baltimore at Metro Stereo and he used to bust my pockets, but when I opened Inner City Records I busted his pockets, I sold him Gospel and Rock Accapellas, off those they made; Those Guys Tonight. I remember after that he told me he didn’t own turntables, but back in the day nobody did. They couldnt afford them at $600.00 each, todays value of $2k each, but he worked in a record store with 1200s all day – full time – 8 hours a day DJ. 1600 hours a year spent with the 1200s.
My first 1200s I had been djing everyday for lunch at school I would bring records in, the CYO (Catholic Youth Organiztion) had a Rane system in the bitch, a pumpin system; shit was like knobs, so I was setting up school dances for the classes and ended up dJing them. I had 1300’s with the nob pitch and I said what the fucks wrong with the motor, cuz they didnt mix right.
I told my dad I had to borrow a grand, for a pair of 1200s, he said what the fuck is that. I told him I would pay him back in 7 days, in 86, you know what I paid him back in 5 days – from selling club tapes and I sold those same 1200s to Tommy Davis of the Basement Boys. Tommy had a Grammy and didnt even care to own Technic 1200s – he didnt need them.
